US President Joe Biden asks world to help flood-ravaged Pakistan

United States President Joe Biden Thursday in his address to United Nations General Assembly Session urged the world to help Pakistan badly hit by devastating floods. Following the recent unprecedented monsoon rains that have triggered floods across the country and caused more than 30 billion losses to the economy, the UN has appealed to the world to help Pakistan cope with the situation. Due to devastating floods, more than 1,500 people lost their lives, while thousands of houses and cattle were swept away. Millions of people have become homeless and are living in the open sky, while the rest of the country is battling the aftermath of the flood as disease outbreaks hit flood-ravaged areas. During the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), US President Joe Biden has drawn the world's attention to flood-hit Pakistan. “Pakistan is still under water and needs help,” the US president said during his address at the UNGA session. IGP vs CM Pervaiz: What’s happening in Punjab?

Punjab is once again embroiled in a controversy over the filing of cases against the PML-N leaders as the Lahore police chief has refused to relinquish his charge, saying he will not do so unless directed by the provincial government. The federal government, in a surprise move, has withdrawn the services of Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and directed him to report to the Establishment Division for further order. The development came after a case was filed against Javed Latif and Marriyum Aurangzeb for allegedly “using religion to instill and spread hatred” against PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan. According to sources, IG Punjab Faisal Shahkar was earlier directed by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi to lodge a case, which he denied and suggested seeking legal input from the relevant authorities in this regard. The resistance from the IG reportedly angered the chief minister who later tasked Dogar to complete the job. Speaking to Geo News, Ghula

FBR jacks up property valuation rates in 20 cities

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has jacked up valuation rates of properties in over 20 cities ranging between 10 and 30 percent on average and also included certain rural areas to bring them on a par with the DC rates during the current fiscal year. Under the World Bank (WB) loan of $400 million titled ‘Pakistan Raises Revenues (PRR)’, the revision of valuation tables of properties in one condition is attached with it. The revised valuation rates will help collect more taxes from immovable property. However, the FBR’s notified rates are still lower than the existing fair market value. Now the FBR has started revising upward the valuation tables of properties in different cities silently during the current fiscal year 2022-23. During the tenure of PTI regime, certain suburbs of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) were excluded from the domain of the FBR and the then deputy commissioner ICT decreased the valuation of properties massively for providing alleged benefits to certain politic
